The campaigning organisation 38 Degrees was set up in 2008 to enable people in the UK 'to defend fairness, protect rights, promote peace, preserve the planet and deepen democracy'. It was partly founded in honour of the late Anita Roddick, the human rights activist, champion of the power of ordinary people to make a difference and founder of the Body Shop. New guidance and a toolkit to prevent the unnecessary deaths of patients with acute gastric bleeding have been launched. The resource aims to improve the diagnosis and management of patients with the condition, particularly those presenting at night and at the weekend. It sets out nine service standards, which will form the basis of commissioning and redesigning care at local level. It was produced by a group of medical and nursing organisations, including the RCN, Royal College of Physicians and Association of Upper GI Surgeons, with funding from the National Patient Safety Agency.
The NHS Alliance has launched a website, called Achieving Commissioning Excellence, to support the development of clinical services which offers a range of resources including: interactive online question and answer sessions with commissioning leaders, regular interviews with people in the field of commissioning, a monthly round-up of commissioning-related news, original resources and signposts to relevant publications by other organisations, and a discussion forum.
A new international society will bring together professionals involved in end of life care planning. The International Society of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care is a forum for health and social care professionals to help patients make decisions about their treatment before they become unable to make informed choices.
The ACT 30 million stars website details the range of projects that obtained funding from the Department of Health's £30 million children's palliative care funding programme announced in 2010. This site encourages you to use a variety of methods to search for information about the projects. Action for Children is a campaigning charity providing support to children and families in the UK and their website reflects their work. Their present campaign is focusing on the work being carried out to support children at risk of neglect, and on research into the interventions that have an impact in this area.

Its mission is to ensure that sick children receive the highest standards of care. Its website offers information and advice, as well as access to a range of publications, training packs, DVDs and videos for parents, young people and healthcare professionals.
This website is a charity that funds medical research in infants, children and young people across the UK. The charity was initially founded to find a cure for poliomyelitis which led to the development of the vaccine. This is a useful website that offers a perspective on the wide range of research that takes place in the paediatric population.

The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) has published a guide to help employers tackle mental ill health at work. It makes for interesting reading, giving the impression of a strong team and a seamless transition.
Allergy UK, the operational name of the British Allergy Foundation, is a medical charity offering advice, information and support to people with allergies, food intolerance and chemical sensitivity. Its website offers advice and background information on allergies and access to an advisory service. The information covers a range of allergic reactions and the causes of allergy.
The American Journal of Psychiatry publishes the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, neuroscience and patient populations. Their website allow users to search for specific articles and pay per view to download them. Their archive stretches from 1844 up to the present day.

The Arthritis Research UK website is an excellent source of current, evidence-based information for clinical practice. It offers advice to nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs), researchers, medical students, GPs, hospital doctors and people with arthritis. The section for nurses and AHPs provides downloadable patient information booklets and material on reviews of musculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain and fibromyalgia syndrome.
