Using Research in Practice – It Sounds Good, But Will It Work?

Using Research in Practice – It Sounds Good, But Will It Work? Author: Jaqui Hewitt-Taylor

Publisher: Palgrave Macmillan

Pages: 200pp

Review

This refreshing book tackles all aspects of evidence-based practice. Some books tail off when they have gone through the stages of asking a question, searching, finding, appraising and making decisions about evidence. But Jaqui Hewitt-Taylor stays to the end of the process, examining the process of change and getting evidence into clinical practice.

She then looks at evaluating the changes to see if they really work for the clinical area. In this way, her book emphasises the completeness of the progression of evidence-based practice, with a start and a logical finish leading to practical change.

This book covers all the ground in a conversational and understandable way, with many worked examples from health care.

Getting evidence into practice is like choosing tapas. You would not necessarily pick just one dish when there are so many others to tempt you. This approach inspires us to believe we can and should get involved in evidence-based practice.
