The Great Ormond Street Hospital Manual of Children’s Nursing Practices

The Great Ormond Street Hospital Manual of Children’s Nursing Practices Author: Susan Macqueen, Elizabeth Anne Bruce, Faith Gibbon

Publisher: Wiley-Blackwel

Pages: 790pp

ISBN: 9781405109321

Review

This long-awaited book has been written by expert specialist nurse contributors, mainly from Great Ormond Street Hospital, who offer clear and easy-to-follow practical information on a wide range of paediatric procedures.

It covers all the relevant topics for children’s nurses.

Although there are minimal photographs, the content is extremely well presented, with clear headings, sub-headings, tables and charts. Information is presented in a logical format, with concise rationale and explanations given for statements and procedures. Each chapter ends with a reference list of up to date, evidence-based guidance.

This book will be invaluable for students and newly qualified nurses to gain an understanding of many procedures and tasks.

Experienced nurses could use the book as a guide for writing their own procedures and clinical guidelines of care. The guidelines can also be used as a benchmark for practice development and training.

All children’s nurses should have this book as a reference.
