Review

This comprehensive textbook and practical guide explores in great detail the role of the nurse educator.

Although written for the north American nursing curriculum, many of the concepts and issues explored are transferable to nurse education in the UK.

The first of the book’s five units looks at the responsibilities of the educator in meeting the diverse needs of students across a broad range of settings and situations.

The second and longest unit focuses on different aspects of curriculum philosophy, design and development. It provides extensive reference to the relevant evidence for education practice.

Units three and four explore elements of the teaching and learning process in the educational environment. They focus on the physical learning environment, teaching techniques and technologies to support learning, notably simulation and distance learning.

The final unit reviews evaluation across a range of learning situations.

The text is broken up with examples, sub-headings and excellent tables and diagrams, with a clear outline of the key points.
