Philosophical and Theoretical Perspectives for Advanced Nursing Practice – Fifth edition

Philosophical and Theoretical Perspectives for Advanced Nursing Practice – Fifth edition Author: William Cody

Publisher: Jones & Bartlett Learning

ISBN: 9780763765705

Review

Keep this book nearby to digest a few pages at a time. This is not to say that the subjects it covers make for light reading. It offers a range of thought-provoking perspectives to help nurses consider their practice and what they may do next.

The authors are mainly from the United States, but the themes are accurate and well-written reference points for all senior nurses, wherever they may work.

The short, concise chapters cover subjects such as health behaviours, frameworks for caring, the science of nursing and global issues. Some of the writings have been taken from previously published sources, and this is reflected in the variety of referencing styles.

Combined with new work, they make for interesting reading. The subjects are well themed and interlinked. Given that this book is in its fifth edition, its method of bringing subjects and authors together from a variety of sources is obviously one that works.

These perspectives have given me plenty of food for thought and made me think differently on a few areas of my practice.
