Pages: 70pp

This handy little book is a useful, compact guide to perioperative practice, not only for experienced nurses, midwives and operating department practitioners, but also for nursing students, newly qualified staff and those returning to practice.
Its pages are laminated, which is useful for a book that will be handled frequently while on the move. There are sections on anaesthesia, patient positions, surgery, recovery and patient discharge from the operating theatre.
Each section is well set out and well written, with a varied and comprehensive overview. It starts by outlining the design of an operating department, its teams, the required clothing and linen management.
Extensive photographs of equipment and diagrams enhance the text, encouraging familiarity with everyday theatre items and improving the learning experience.
This book is a useful starting point for perioperative information and to aid observation, before putting the theory into practice. The many references are a great resource for further reading.
Reviewer: Bev Al-Azzawi
