Evidence-Based Practice – An Implementation Guide for Healthcare Organizations

Review

American authors Janet Houser and Kathleen Oman address the ‘how’ aspects of putting evidence into practice in health care.

A quote at the beginning sets the scene: ‘For a long time, scientific research was left to the academics. That no longer works in health care.’

This book looks at encouraging staff to put research into practice, using technology to support evidence-based care and integrate its practice in clinical areas.

There are some useful clinical examples bringing in evidence-based guidelines and protocols to highlight processes that practitioners could learn from. They show how groups of staff can bring the evidence-based practice message to a local level and make a difference in their own areas, as well as the wider organisational approaches to which everyone can make a contribution.

Some of the terms used in the book may be unfamiliar to UK readers but are not so outlandish that nurses would not understand them.
