Written under a pseudonym, this ‘profession-confession’ features the down-to-earth and humorous experiences of a dietitian.
Chapters such as ‘ Elf and safety’, ‘Teamwork’ and ‘Number crunching’ have broad appeal and I really enjoyed this book. At £8.99, it is a bargain. It is an easy read and great to dip in and out of. The timeline is sometimes slightly difficult to follow, as the content jumps around rather than being written in chronological order.
An alternative format that could have been used is that of Imogen Edwards-Jones in Hospital Babylon, which compresses a number of experiences and events into one day.
There are thorough explanations, footnotes and the text is well referenced. Many of the links are to websites and online resources.
This book will have a wide appeal. Non-experts will be able to follow the stories just as well as those with specialist knowledge of nutrition and dietetics. It will especially appeal to students, dietitians trained outside the UK, other healthcare professionals and the general public.
