At a time when the care of older people in homes and hospitals has been under scrutiny, new guidelines have been published to support and guide the practice of individual nurses working in acute settings.
Funded by a grant from the Burdett Trust and endorsed by Help the Aged, the Best Practice for Older People in Acute Settings (BPOP): Guidance for Nurses (2009) have been researched and written by nursing experts at City University London and update the Standard Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee guidelines that were published alongside the National Service Framework for Older People by the Department for Health in 2001.
They cover a range of topics including end of life care, meeting mental health needs and promoting continence.
