Who cares? by Amanda Steane

Every patient should experience the best possible care when they go into hospital. But sometimes things go badly wrong, as they did for Amanda Steane's husband Paul. Amanda's husband Paul went into hospital for minor surgery. After repeated mistakes and neglect by doctors and nurses, Paul emerged in constant pain and unable to walk, talk, see or breathe properly. In the end he took his own life.

The NHS tried to avoid any responsibility but a nurse, outraged at how Paul and Amanda were being treated, sent Amanda copies of medical records that indicated NHS managers might not have been honest, and the police started to investigate.

Amanda warns us about what can happen in our hospitals; not to place blame, but to ensure that no one else ever has to suffer as Paul did.
