When a clinical matron who had breast cancer stood before a celebration of nursing event to share her story about the great care and compassion she had experienced at the hospital where she worked, there was hardly a dry eye in the house.
The hospital was the James Cook in Middlesbrough, the event was the trust's annual Nightingale conference, and among those in the 200-plus audience moved to tears was the unit's director of nursing and acting chief executive Tricia Hart.
